This Esthetician Shows You How

Makeup is an amazing enhancement to the beauty of your skin, however, it shouldn’t be something we’re dependent upon.  If you’ve always wanted to go makeup free consistently, it’s possible.

Esthetician, Erika Rucker, says clients can reach goals like these when they partner with an esthetician who provides proper education while addressing client expectations.

What’s your name?

Erika Rucker

What’s the name of your business?

Skindeep: Skin Care & Waxing Lounge.

Solo Operated

Where are you based?

Greensboro, NC

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

Honestly, I met an esthetician, who was also Black. I had no idea what an esthetician was and what they did. After talking to her, it was like an ah-ha moment for me. I knew immediately that’s what I was supposed to be doing. A meeting with destiny, I’d like to call it!

What is your specialty?

I help Brown Girls erase pesky dark spots on their face, so that they never have to wear makeup – unless they want to.

What is your signature technique and approach to skincare?

Simple: I choose to take a more whole-body, progressive approach. Often times, less is so much more. Slow and steady wins the race. Our skin is a two-sided organ. It’s imperative as professionals we manage client expectations with education-education on how the skin functions. They need to understand that reaching their skin goals takes a partnership, trust, patience and consistency.

What’s your skincare regimen?

During the day, I keep it simple. A light cleanse in the a.m., a nourishing, hydrating aqua, followed by an antioxidant spray or serum, eye serum and SPF.

For night, depending on what my skin is needing, I’ll either use a hydrating cleanser or an exfoliating cleanser, a toner to address dark spots, a brightening serum, eye cream and a medium to heavy moisturizer chalked with peptides and brightening ingredients. My skin loves hydration and moisturizing.

What’s your favorite serum?

Isov Oligo Hydro Serum. By far my absolute fav! A light, watery serum that provides heavy hydration, firms the skin and makes the skin feel and look healthier.

What’s the one skincare product you can’t live without and why?

SPF, hands down. Doesn’t matter what other products I may use, if I’m not protecting my skin, it’s all in vain. The #1 way to preserve your skin and ward off the signs of getting older.

What’s your go-to food or drink that you feel supports your skin or gives it a boost?

Water and colorful veggies!

Do you have any skin sins? If so, what are they?

We are all human, and I’ve definitely gone to bed without washing my face. Not often, but that would be it. My advice: Always go ahead and wash the day off of you when you know you’re in for the night. No need to wait right before you hop in bed. You run the risk of not getting it done!

What celebrity or influencer or notable person is #skincaregoals?

It’s kinda hard to say since I’ve never seen anyone up close in person. Everyone is filter in the internet streets! Lol. But, I know that Angela Bassett takes care of her body and skin, and it shows.

What esthetician would you love to get a facial from?

Robin Townsend of Faces by Robin Advanced Skin Care

And, I know I give an amazing facial and would love to experience what my clients experience.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’ve been in the industry for almost 17 years and Skindeep just celebrated its 3rd anniversary.
